This project is based on the “Dead Wood Archive” (book), Toward A Civil Discourse: Rhetoric and Fundamentalism by Sharon Crowley. The book discusses the relationship between Liberalism and Christian Fundamentalism, how these two ideas feed into each other, and the impact fundamentalism is having on American Politics.
Religion and politics are very controversial and fragile subjects. When combined with differing belief systems, things get very gritty and chaotic while eliciting uncomfortable, difficult and conflicting emotions. I wanted to portray those characteristics in the overall design and within interactive elements of the site including grunge-textured imagery, the “organized chaos” in the copy, components with horizontally parallax scrolling, and text that enlarges upon hovering.
